영국 카본 리터러시 트러스트와 탄소 교육 MOU
기업·기관 대상의 탄소중립 및 ESG 교육 전문 기업인 넷제로아카데미가 영국의 세계적인 탄소 교육 비영리 기관인 카본 리터러시 트러스트(Carbon Literacy Trust) 재단(이하 CLTrust)과 탄소 교육을 위한 양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다고 16일 밝혔다.
글로벌 비영리 교육 단체인 CLTrust는 수강 후 카본리터러시 자격 인증을 부여해 기후 변화에 능동적으로 대응할 수 있는 교육, 인식, 행동의 변화를 이끌어내 왔다. 현재 전 세계적으로 730개 이상의 카본 리터러시 인증 과정이 개설돼 있으며 유럽·아시아 등 33개국의 기업·정부기관·대학 등이 이 교육을 수강했다.
양사는 국내 기업과 기관 등을 대상으로 CLTrust의 세계적인 탄소 교육 프로그램인 ‘카본 리터러시TM’ 교육을 진행할 예정이다. 카본 리터러시는 CLTrust의 탄소 교육 프로그램의 공식 명칭으로 ‘일상 활동의 탄소 비용과 영향에 대한 인식과 이를 줄이기 위한 개인, 공동체 및 조직 차원의 능력과 동기’를 의미한다.
이번 협약에 따라 CLTrust는 한국의 특수성과 문화적 특성을 반영한 맞춤형 탄소 교육 자료·기후 행동 훈련 도구 개발과 관해 넷제로아카데미에 자문할 예정이다. 넷제로아카데미는 이를 통해 국내 다양한 부문에서 포괄적인 카본 리터러시 교육을 제공할 계획이다.
박희원 넷제로아카데미 대표는 “한국은 경제 수준에 비해 탄소이해력이 상당히 뒤떨어져 있으며 탄소 문제가 기후 위기 문제를 넘어 국제 탄소 규제 통상 이슈인 현 상황에서 모두가 거의 손을 놓고 있다”며 “이번 협력이 한국인들의 탄소 문제에 대한 경각심을 높이고 구체적인 기후행동 실천으로 이어지길 바란다”고 밝혔다. 또 “이번 MOU를 계기로 한국과 영국간의 기후 행동 및 탄소 중립에 관한 국제 민간 교류도 추진할 계획”이라고 덧붙였다. 넷제로아카데미는 현재 자연환경신탁, 유엔한반도평화번영재단 등 단체·지방자치단체와 카본 리터러시 교육을 준비 중이며 이달 중 공기업을 대상으로 교육을 진행할 예정이다.

Net Zero Academy Signs MOU with UK’s Carbon Literacy Trust for Carbon Education
Net Zero Academy, a Korean education firm specializing in carbon neutrality and ESG training for businesses and institutions, announced on the 16th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the UK-based global nonprofit Carbon Literacy Trust (CLTrust) to deliver carbon education programs.
The Carbon Literacy Trust, a globally recognized nonprofit educational organization, offers Carbon Literacy™ certification to individuals and organizations upon completion of its training. The program aims to bring about meaningful changes in education, awareness, and action in response to climate change. Over 730 Carbon Literacy-certified courses are currently available worldwide, and organizations in 33 countries—including those in Europe and Asia—have participated in the program.
Under the agreement, Net Zero Academy will collaborate with CLTrust to roll out the internationally recognized Carbon Literacy™ program in Korea, targeting domestic companies, government bodies, and institutions. The term “Carbon Literacy” refers to the understanding of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities and the motivation and ability of individuals, communities, and organizations to reduce them.
As part of the MOU, CLTrust will provide advisory support to help Net Zero Academy develop customized carbon education content and climate action training tools tailored to Korea’s unique industrial and cultural context. Net Zero Academy plans to use these resources to offer comprehensive Carbon Literacy education across various sectors in Korea.
Dr. Hee-won Park, CEO of Net Zero Academy, stated:
“Despite Korea’s advanced economy, the level of carbon literacy remains relatively low. As carbon issues have evolved beyond the climate crisis into international trade regulations, there has been a widespread lack of preparedness.”
“Through this collaboration, we hope to raise public awareness of carbon issues in Korea and promote concrete climate actions.”
He added that the MOU would also serve as a foundation for fostering international private-sector cooperation between Korea and the UK in the areas of climate action and carbon neutrality.
Net Zero Academy is currently preparing Carbon Literacy training programs in partnership with organizations such as the Korea Nature Trust and the UN Korean Peninsula Peace and Prosperity Foundation, as well as several local governments. The academy plans to launch its first training session for public enterprises later this month.
