전라북도 전주시가 국내 최초로 국제적으로 인증된 탄소중립 교육의 학교 교육과정 도입을 추진한다.

전주시정연구원 전주시탄소중립지원센터는 28일 넷제로아카데미 주식화사와 ‘교육발전특구사업 공동 교육 협약’을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이번 협약은 전주지역 초·중·고 교원과 학생들에게 글로벌 스탠다드 탄소중립 교육을 제공하기 위해 마련됐다.

우선 센터는 국내 지자체에서는 처음으로 영국 맨체스터 카본리터러시 트러스트(CLT) 재단의 탄소이해력 교육을 공식 도입할 예정이다.

이후 넷제로아카데미(주)와 함께 맞춤형 교재와 교육 영상을 제작한 뒤 전주지역 교사와 학생들에게 무상으로 제공할 계획이다.

교육을 성공적으로 마친 참가자에게는 영국 CLT 재단에서 국제 공인 ‘Carbon Literate’ 자격증이 발급된다. 이 자격증은 향후 진학 및 유학 준비과정에서 ESG 활동 실적으로도 활용할 수 있다.

박희원 넷제로아카데미(주) 대표는 “국제적으로 인증된 탄소중립 교육을 전주시 교원과 학생들에게 제공할 수 있어 의미가 크다”며 “이 교육 프로그램이 향후 전주시 공무원, 일반시민 등에게 확산돼 전주시 탄소중립에도 기여할 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.

박미자 전주시정연구원장은 “이번 협약을 통해 전주시가 국내 최초로 국제공인 탄소중립 교육을 학교 교육 과정에 도입하는 지자체가 될 수 있게 됐다”면서 “탄소중립 교육을 통해 미래세대가 글로벌 환경 이슈를 이해하고 적극적으로 대응할 수 있도록 지원하겠다”고 말했다. [ESG경제신문=김도산 기자]

Jeonju to Become the First City in Korea to Introduce Internationally Certified Carbon Neutrality Education into School Curriculum

Jeonju City, North Jeolla Province, is set to become the first municipality in South Korea to incorporate internationally certified carbon neutrality education into its school curriculum.

On the 28th, the Jeonju Municipal Policy Research Institute and the Jeonju Carbon Neutrality Support Center announced that they had signed a “Joint Education Agreement for the Special Education Development Zone Project” with Net Zero Academy Co., Ltd.

This agreement aims to provide global standard carbon literacy education to teachers and students at elementary, middle, and high schools in the Jeonju area.

As part of this initiative, the Center plans to officially introduce carbon literacy education developed by the Carbon Literacy Trust (CLT) based in Manchester, UK—making Jeonju the first local government in Korea to do so.

Together with Net Zero Academy, the Center will develop customized textbooks and educational videos, which will be provided free of charge to teachers and students in the Jeonju area.

Participants who successfully complete the training will receive an internationally recognized “Carbon Literate” certificate issued by the UK-based CLT. This certificate can be used as proof of ESG-related activities for college admissions and study abroad applications.

Park Hee-won, CEO of Net Zero Academy, said, “It is highly meaningful to provide internationally certified carbon neutrality education to teachers and students in Jeonju. We will work to expand this program to include public officials and general citizens, contributing further to Jeonju’s carbon neutrality goals.”

Park Mi-ja, Director of the Jeonju Municipal Policy Research Institute, stated, “Through this agreement, Jeonju will become the first local government in Korea to integrate internationally certified carbon neutrality education into its school curriculum. We aim to support future generations in understanding and actively responding to global environmental issues through carbon neutrality education.”
